Monday 11th October

  • Song recital: Berg, Canteloube, Fauré and Brahms.  Sally Matthews and Simon Lepper, La Monnaie, Place de Brouchère, 1000 Brussels at 20:00.
  • Piano Bar: Jazz, film music and original compositions.  Victor Abel, Café Bonnefooi, rue des Pierres 8, 1000 Brussels at 22:00.  This guy looks really young on the photo.
  • Jazz: Master Session (Bart De Nolf (contrabas), Bruno Castellucci (drums), Michael Blass (piano)), Sounds Jazz Club, Tulpstraat 28, 1050 Ixelles at 22:00.  Always a great place to hang out.

Tuesday 12th October

  • J.S.Bach: The 6 Brandenburg Concertos. Akademie für Alte Musik Berlin, BOZAR, Rue Ravenstein 23, 1000 Brussels at 20:00. A good solid programme that will be well played.
  • Experimental, improvisation, electroacoustic. Violinist Carlos Zingaro, Théâtre Marni, rue de Vergnies 25, 1050 Ixelles at 20:00. A zany, interesting trip for the open-minded.
  • Apero Jazz: Morena Brindisi Duo (piano and voice), Piola Libri, rue Franklin 66, 1000 Brussels at 18:57.  Jazz between the bookshelves of the tiny Piola Libri shop.  Wait, is it a shop or a cultural centre.
  • Jazz: Ben Sluijs (saxophone), Erik Vermeulen (piano), Musical Instruments Museum, Hofberg 2, 1000 Brussels at 12:30. Not a bad thing to do in your lunch break.
  • Jazz: Raf Debacker Trio (Cedric Raymond (bass), Lionel Beuvens (drums), Raphael Debacker (piano)), Sounds Jazz Club, Tulpstraat 28, 1050 Ixelles at 22:00.
  • Jazz: Portico Quartet, La Botanique, 236 rue Royale, 1210 St Josse at 20:00.  A group with a really distinctive style.  Quite some minimalist influence.  Have a listen to their myspace samples.

Wednesday 13th October

  • Piano Recital: Mozart, Berg, Liszt, Bartok. Hélène Grimaud, BOZAR, rue Ravenstein 23, 1000 Brussels at 20:00.
  • Saints-Säens: Carnaval of the Animals. Family Concert (+5) with inserted texts in French, Flagey Studio 4, Place Ste.-Croix, 1050 Ixelles at 15:00.  Definitely recommended if your kids speak French.
  • Jazz: Ivan Paduart Quintet (Ivan Paduart (piano), Toon Roos (sax), Carlo Nardozza (trumpet), Philippe Aerts (double bass), Joost Van Schaik (percussions)., Jazz Station, Leuvensesteenweg 193, 1210 St Josse at 20:30.
  • Cuban Jazz: Patronato (Frederik Lebeer, Gonzalo Rodriguez Diaz, Leonid Muñoz Hernandez en Gilberto Quevedo). The Rits Café, Antoine Dansaertstraat 70, 1000 Brussels at 20:30. The Rits is promising cigars, Mojitos and Caipirinhas to hot up the Cuban air.
  • Jazz: Rosario Giuliani Quartet (Rosario Giuliani (saxophone) Benjamin Henocq (drums), Darryl Hall (bass), Roberto Tarenzi (piano), Sounds Jazz Club, Tulpstraat 28, 1050 Ixelles at 22:00.

Thursday 14th October

  • New Classical Music: Sandgren, Gobert and Canat de Chizy. Champ d’Action, Petite Salle du Conservatoire, Kleine Zavel 5, 1000 Brussels at 20:00. A programme of contemporary music as part of the European project Re:New Music.
  • Piano Quintets: Brahms and Fauré.  Quatuor Ebène with pianist Akiko Yamamoto, Brussels Royal Conservatory, Regentschapsstraat 30, 1000 Brussels at 20:00.
  • Choral Music: Juan Vásquez (1510 – 1560). Ensemble Juan Vasquez de Extremadura, Miniemenkerk, Miniemenstraat 62, 1000 Brussels at 20:00.
  • Dance: The Legend of Apsara Méra. Royal Ballet of Cambodia, BOZAR, rue Ravenstein 23, 1000 Brussels at 20:00.

Friday 15th October

  • Beethoven’s Violin Concerto, Van Rossum’s Lyrical Story and Stravinsky’s Firebird Suite: National Orchestra of Belgium, BOZAR, rue Ravenstein 23, 1000 Brussels at 20:00.
  • Beethoven’s Septet for wind and strings: Chamber Music at the Monnaie, Muntplein, 1000 Brussels at 12:30.
  • Jazz: Rassinfosse Trio. The Music Village, Steenstraat 50, 1000 Brussels at 21:00.
  • Jazz: There is an Eiffel there.  Benoit Vanderstraeten (bass), Carla Van Effeltaire (piano), Dick Van der harst (Bandoneon), Françoise Derissen (violin), Frédéric Malempré (percussion), Michel Paré (trumpet), Sounds Jazz Club, Tulpstraat 28, 1050 Ixelles at 22:00.

Saturday 16th October

  • New Classical Music: Thoresen, Persson, Bruun and Klemola. Ensemble OI\I, CC Etterbeek – Espace Senghor, Waversesteenweg, 366, 1040 Etterbeek at 20:30.  More contemporary music from the Re:New Music project.
  • Choral Music: ‘Cranach’s ear‘ – works by Paul Hofhaimer, Petrus Trionious and Heinrich Isaac.  Huelgas Ensemble, BOZAR, Horta Hall, rue Ravenstein 23, 1000 Brussels at 20:00.  The concert previews the exhibition on the painter Lucas Cranach.
  • Jazz and Classical: Works by Chopin played by classical and jazz musicians.  Anna Ciborowska (piano), Cezariusz Gadzina (saxophone), Bart De Nolf (contrabass), Lionel Beuvens (drums).  CC De Kriekelaar, Gallaitstraat 86, 1030 Schaerbeek at 20:00.
  • Jazz: Emilia Kirova (singer-violinist), The Music Village, Steenstraat 50, 1000 Brussels at 20:30.

Sunday 17th October
