What’s On in Brussels : 18 – 24 October 2010

Monday 18th October

  • Piano bar: Martin Salemi, Café Bonnefooi, Steenstraat 8, 1000 Brussels at 22:00.  This week’s free Bonnefooi piano bar is with Martin Salemi.
  • Jazz:  Bart De Nolf (contrabas), Bruno Castellucci (drums), Michael Blass (piano), Master Session, Sounds Jazz Club, Tulpstraat 28, 1050 Ixelles at 22:00.  These guys are back at Sounds this Monday and next Monday, in case you missed them last week.

Tuesday 19th October

  • Tango Concert: Café de los Maestros Ensemble, BOZAR, rue Ravenstein 23, 1000 Brussels at 20:00.  Tango musicians from Buenos Aires are joined by two dancers (after the 2008 film).

Wednesday 20th October

  • Violin Sonatas by Franz Schubert and Guillaume Lekeu: Jerrold Rubenstein (violin) Dalia Ouziel (piano), BOZAR, Hall M, rue Ravenstein 23, 1000 Brussels at 12:40.
  • Fusion of styles: Oak Trio, Royal Music Conservatory of Brussels- Auditorium, Place du Chêne, 1000 Brussels at 20:00.  Original works using a mix of jazz, rock and improvisation.
  • Jazz: Robert Jeanne (sax), Philippe Doyen (gitaar), Werner Lauscher (contrabas), Stefan Kremer (drums), Restaurant Moby Dick, Lambermontlaan 166, 1030 Schaerbeek at 21:00.

Thursday 21st October

  • Classical Music: Gala concert in aid of the renovation of the Royal Brussels Music Conservatory, Regentschapsstraat 30, 1000 Brussels at 20:30.  The concert is entitled “Fo(u)r the Musica” and seems to involve 4 different orchestras; more info about the programme is hard to find.
  • Jazz: Pierre Anckaert, Jazz Station, Leuvensestwg 193, 1210 Sint-Joost-ten-Nodeat 20:30.  “Strings Attached” is for jazz quintet.  Pierre likes to mix up classical and jazz.
  • Jazz: Mess Trio (Cedric Raymond (bass), Didier Van Uytvanck (drums), Fred Delplancq (tenor sax)), Sounds Jazz Club, Tulpstr. 28, 1050 Ixelles at 22:00.  Likely to be very smoothe.

Friday 22nd October

  • Baroque works for Vespers: voice and small ensemble, Ensemble La Fenice with Carlos Mena (male alto, L’Eglise des Minimes, rue des Minimes 62, 1000 Brussels at 20:00.  Programme includes Frescobaldi, Banchieri, Grandi and Monteverdi.  Should be lush.
  • Brahms Clarinet Sonata and Clarinet Trio, Raymond Dils and Ivo Lybeert (clarinet), Sébastien Walnier (cello) Zsolt Czetner (piano), De Munt, Place de la Monnaie, 1000 Brussels at 12:30.  This week’s Monnaie lunchtimer.
  • Baroque Court music by Michel Lambert, Musica Favola, Paleis van Karel van Lotharingen, Museumplein 1, 1000 Brussels at 12:30.

Saturday 23rd October

  • New Classical Music by Tansy Davies and Pelle Gudmundsen-Holmgreen.  Musique Nouvelles and Quatuor Tana, CC Etterbeek – Espace Senghor, Waversesteenweg, 366, 1040 Etterbeek at 20:30.  An event within the Re: New Music project.  May be difficult, but you do get to meet the composers after the concert.

Sunday 24th October

  • Chopin’s Piano Concerto Nr.2, Berlioz Symphonie Fantastique and Currier’s Microsymph: National Orchestra of Belgium with Lise de la Salle (piano), BOZAR, rue Ravenstein 23, 1000 Brussels at 15:00.  The same piano concerto as the Flemish Symphony Orchestra played on 11th October!  Well, this concert is at a child-friendly time.
