Project Hildegard #23 (2)

This is the fourth piece in my song cycle for Saint Ursula. It forms the end of the first half of the cycle. All the pieces in this first half have “osculum pacis ursule virgini” (the kiss of peace to the virgin ursula) as a repeating motif, using variations on the same musical setting for the text. (The text comes from the first chant in the series studium divinitatis.)

Each of the four pieces stands alone, but they are intended to flow into each other. In my next post, I will upload a version with all four pieces put together. In the meantime, here is no. 4.

St Ursula at lauds: no. 4 deus enim in prima muliere

because god [the kiss of peace to the virgin ursula] had shown in the first woman how woman should be nurtured by the protection of man (additional text in [ ] is from studium divinitatis, the first piece in Part 1 of this song cycle)
